Voting for the first phase of Chhattisgarh’s three-tier panchayat elections began on Monday in 53 blocks across the state. Visuals from Nimora village showed enthusiastic voters casting their ballots at the local polling station.

In January, the Chhattisgarh Election Commission had announced that the panchayat elections would be held in three phases, scheduled for February 17, 20, and 23, with results to be declared on February 18, 21, and 24, respectively.

Ahead of the panchayat elections, Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda congratulated Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and the party’s workers for their victory in the state’s recent civic elections. The BJP secured mayoral positions in all ten municipal corporations and won chairperson posts in 35 municipal councils and 81 Nagar Panchayats.

In a celebratory message posted on social media, Nadda described the victory as “historic,” emphasizing that it reflected the people’s trust in the welfare schemes implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He said, “I heartily congratulate Chief Minister @vishnudsai ji, State President @KiranDeoBJP ji, and all BJP workers in Chhattisgarh for this massive victory in the urban body elections. This historic win symbolizes the unwavering faith of the people in the welfare and tribal-friendly initiatives of the double-engine government, guided by Prime Minister @narendramodi ji.”

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai celebrated the BJP’s victory, asserting that the party had won all ten mayoral seats with significant margins. He further claimed, “This is a historic day for Chhattisgarh BJP and the state government. We have won all ten seats, and Congress has been wiped clean in the civic polls, failing to secure even a single seat. We thank all the voters for their faith in BJP and PM Modi.”

Elections for 173 urban bodies, including ten municipal corporations, 49 municipal councils, and 114 Nagar Panchayats, were held on February 11.
